Being a global traveler is the same as being a time traveler. It took four years and a couple laps around the earth for me to figure it all out. You see, it works a lot like this. You buy a plane ticket. And it has a very specific departure time. Then you board the plane and take off. You fly through the air for a certain amount of time, crossing longitudes and time zones. The plane ticket has a flight duration associated with it, but at this point, who knows what time you actually took off. And how much time you’ve spent in the air. Your phone is off or in airplane mode.
Now, let me riddle you this one…. Our concept of time is based on the speed our rock is traveling around a gas ball. This is all relative to our position in the universe. Like, being on the ground. A little bit of sway in any direction (free diving! Mountain climbing!) isn’t going to cause a noticeable effect. Go a few miles up and that’s where things get sticky. I passed college physics. Barely. But I was in class often enough to realize that there's math involved here. Very complicated math that I was never able to master.
What I was able to master though, is a keen sense of the dark side of the universe. That wobbly black quilt that lives just beneath what we can see and understand in our daily lives. That’s where time traveling lives. At least my perception of it. In that black wobbly quilt.
That’s how I know that if you add up the dates and times and time duration's from the plane tickets and compare it to what actually occurred (as you can most accurately measure, siiiigh.) you’ll never get a balanced ledger. The math will always be off. Your reality of time will forever be skewed.
I’m pretty sure I’m actually younger.
Sometimes I think this is a good thing. Other times, I think it’s not.
I’ve decided that if you are one of these people that know what I’m talking about, then maybe you’ve already come to the same conclusion as I. In order to actually be your right age, you’d have to go back to the exact spot you were born lattitudally and longitudally at the exact time (as was most accurately measured, siiiigh) in order to actually be however old you think you're supposed to be. Cheers brewers.
